Do I need previous experience of Care Work?
If you have previous experience, that's excellent. More important is the right blend of reliability, honesty, flexibility, a caring nature and willingness to learn. It's all about the attitude as well as the aptitude. Some of our best carers came to us without any prior experience of care, but be aware that it is hard work!
I can't work full-time hours, is that a problem?
Care work isn't a 9 to 5 job, there are early starts, evening and weekend shifts that we need to fill, we will be as accommodating as possible to meet your needs, all we ask for is a degree of flexibility from you. There are full-time and part-time opportunities available to suit. Ultimately we have to match the requirements of our clients with the availability of carers.
What training will I receive?
All carers, regardless of experience, undergo our rigorous induction training which is module based and is aimed at equipping you with all the skills you need to be able to carry out your duties confidently and competently. You will shadow an experienced member of staff and receive ongoing support from your line manager and have access to a wide range of resources. You will also have an individual training and development plan designed around you and your aspirations.
What qualifications and training do you provide?
We offer a wide range of in-house certificated training (plus we pay extra for the successful completion of selected training modules) and there are a range of qualifications available, depending on individual needs and development plans. With Calverton Supreme, you can access the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF's) and industry recognised qualifications, from Apprenticeships up to management level which are usually funded, or part-funded – depending upon availability.
We recently offered all staff the opportunity to take nationally recognised qualifications in Health & Nutrition and Equality & Diversity at NCFE Level II – free!
What's the pay like?
The care sector isn't known for its high pay rates, however, pay does depend on experience and qualifications and starts from £11.13 per hour on weekdays + travel time (@ £10.42p/h) + £ 0.45p per mile. We pay enhanced rates of £11.66 p/h Evenings and Weekends , with the opportunity of overtime.
